European BioBlitz 2021

Join an epic race for wildlife this September as citizens across Europe take part in the worlds’ first 48 hour continental BioBlitz!

Nature is vitally important and nature is in trouble, but we can all help with nature’s recovery by helping fill in the gaps in what we know about the species on our doorsteps. By observing nature nearby, everyone can support vital conservation research whilst connecting with nature and enjoying the outdoors.

That’s why on 24 and 25 September, researchers, school groups, citizens and wildlife enthusiasts across the continent are coming together in a race against the clock to help put nature on the map, submitting photos and observations of wildlife in their neighbourhoods through the free, easy to use iNaturalist mobile phone app.

Get involved

The BioBlitz is part of INTERSECTIONS an international collaboration for European Researchers Night and they are looking for organisations and community leaders across Europe to help get local communities involved.

You could:

  • Join the BioBlitz to connect your local activities to a cross border collaboration story
  • Encourage your communities, volunteers and staff to take part
  • Organise a local BioBlitz event or activity in your region
  • Host a regional online workshop for your community
  • Share free teaching resources and activities with schools in your region
  • Share your biodiversity research or local wildlife story in a cross border online event
  • Join a cross border social media campaign

To express your interest and find out more about how you and your organisation can get involved contact the Natural History Consortium: matt@bnhc.org.uk
