Bats, chainsaws, photography, radioecology, scything find them all in the CJS Training Directory, which has had a major update.
Training Co-ordinator Katie has spent the last nine months steadily working through all our contacts and has sent over 2000 emails contacting nearly 1000 different training providers and organisations. As a result, the Training Directory is now filled to the brim with information.
CJS has always included a small amount of information about training courses initially just a few snippets about new courses in each weekly edition but as interest from both participants and providers grew we started including more until there was too much to include in our paper editions and transferred the bulk of the information online.
When we built the current website in 2019 we looked through all the information we had and tried to put it into a more useable format separating short courses from long ones and subdividing both according to subject so you no longer had to wade through machinery courses to find one on bat identification. For people looking for degree and MSc level qualifications the long courses are also categorised meaning you can jump straight to find Forest School leadership or even a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science and Outdoor Education and completely skip all the forestry courses whilst not getting side tracked by wondering what’s involved in an MSc Climate Change: Managing the Marine Environment.
Distance learning has always been a part of the Directory but covid lockdowns accelerated the growth here and the range is extensive – from animal care to woodland management for biodiversity. Remote events aka webinars have also become ever more popular, CJS Editor Kerryn presented an introduction to CJS at the recent University Mammal Challenge Finale Webinar something we could never do when in-person presentations were required. You’ll now find a section dedicated to webinars and online learning; online learning differs from distance learning in that you have to attend the online lectures and events whereas distance learning is completed at your own pace.
Take a look at the revamped Directory
Last year’s reader survey informed us that 44% of readers completed CPD courses, you can use the Directory to find these too. If it’s practical certification and ticket renewal or you need to brush up your first aid skills you’ll find everything required in the Directory. Many Training Providers run courses on an as required basis and even where appropriate at your workplace, office or site.
Since Katie began the process she’s added:
- 1361 new short courses
- 133 new long courses (including distance)
- 35 new providers
- 99 events.
Training Providers make sure you are in the Directory
If your centre or course wasn’t one of those added then please send us the details and we’ll include them, free of charge of course! Paid options are available if you want to stand out from the thousands of other listings.
Information can be found here or please contact Katie by email.
