Last year the charity Butterfly Conservation ran a public survey for the migrant Humming-bird Hawk-moth and Painted Lady butterfly. Unfortunately, 2008 was a poor year for the immigration of these and other migratory species. Nevertheless we had an impressive 1000 sightings nationwide http://www.butterfly-conservation.org/text/2601/results_of_the_2008_survey.html
Butterfly Conservation is continuing the survey throughout 2009 and the early signs are that it will be a much better year. Painted Ladies have already been reported across southern England.
