Nearly three-quarters of swifts visiting over the summer months nest in our homes according to data collected by thousands of members of the public last year. See metadata for this dataset
The results of the first swift survey, run by the RSPB, shows that almost all swifts nest in buildings, and they tend to favour older properties in our towns and villages.
These findings have been used to map, for the first time, nearly 3,500 known nest sites used by swifts, down to the exact building. Further data will be added to the inventory each year.
