Scotland bursaries 2023

Since 2009, BRISC and the Glasgow Natural History Society (GNHS) have been offering bursaries towards attending a training course in natural history field studies. These bursaries are open to anyone living in Scotland, who wants to improve their skills, and contribute to biological recording. NatureScot has been contributing to these bursaries since 2017, specifically targeting those aged 25 or under. In 2019 the Inverness Botany Group joined the bursary scheme with a contribution from a member’s bequest, offering funding for courses studying plants in the Highlands.

In return, the recipients of the bursaries are asked to write a short article for BRISC Recorder News, and/or the GNHS Newsletter and undertake a five-minute presentation at the Annual Conference. Examples of past bursaries are available to download.

From 2023 the organisers are pleased to be able to offer bursaries of up to £400, up to £100 of which can go towards transport costs, to make it easier to attend courses. To apply please visit the BRISC website to download and complete the application form and send it to bursary@brisc.org.uk by 31 January 2023.
