Public consultation for the Natural Forest Standard

The Natural Forest Standard (NFS) is a newly-developed carbon standard focused on the conservation of natural forests. The Natural Forest Standard (NFS) recognises the global importance of natural forests in climate regulation and maintenance of biodiversity.

As an organisation, it believes the development of the Natural Forest Standard should be of an evolving nature and should include interaction from relevant experts to create positive and on-going enhancements. It is therefore inviting you to participate in the development of the Standard by offering any feedback or comments that you may have to assist it in its goal of creating a transparent and responsive Standard.

The initial public consultation period for the Natural forest standard is ending on 31st October and it would greatly appreciate your feedback.

The NFS is aimed specifically at certifying the carbon benefits and biodiversity impacts of medium to large-scale projects focusing on the conservation and restoration of natural forests at risk of deforestation and degradation. The first versions of the Standard and Guidance documents are now publicly available on the website.

In brief, the key focuses and features of the Standard are:

• Focus on Natural Forests at risk from deforestation and degradation
• Unified, risk-based performance benchmark to provide baselines
• Integration of social, biodiversity and carbon values
• Conservation and restoration of natural forests
• Bridging the gap between community-based/local carbon offset projects and national/Government programmes.

If you are interested in contributing to the development of the Natural Forest Standard, your comments or feedback will be very much appreciated and they will be pleased to answer any questions you may have. You can submit feedback via the contact page on the website. Recognition of your participation with the Standard can be included on the website, at your discretion.
