OPAL has been recognised by Imperial College London for its outstanding work in engaging the public with science and nature through its nationwide network of partners.
At an awards ceremony held in London on 20 June, the OPAL team received the Collaboration Award for Societal Engagement as part of the annual President’s Awards, which recognise Imperial staff, students and community partners who have delivered excellence in their field.
The Collaboration Award specifically recognises engagement projects that involved forming new and innovative partnerships. Since its inception, OPAL has worked with 22 partners across the UK, including leading museums, universities, environmental organisations and the NBN.
OPAL Director Dr David Slawson said “We’re delighted with the award, it’s great to be recognised by our peers. The team works so hard, so this award is a fantastic recognition of their efforts.
We’ve had so much engagement with the project outside Imperial, but I don’t think we’re that well known within the College. We’re perhaps one of the College’s best kept secrets so to receive this award is really great.”
