The NBN Trust is delighted to be receiving a Go Further, Faster award from Amazon Web Services’ inaugural 2023 IMAGINE Grant UK for Non-profits.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has offered this public grant opportunity to registered charities in the United Kingdom which are using cloud technology to solve the world’s most pressing challenges.
Their global IMAGINE Grant programme is in its sixth year, and this is the first year that AWS’s IMAGINE Grants have been offered to UK charities.
The NBN Trust will be receiving $40,000 USD as well as the opportunity to work with AWS technical specialists. This will enable the final phase of the NBN Atlas’ Fit for the Future project, allowing the acceleration of wildlife data to be published on the NBN Atlas – making it available sooner for the UK conservation and research communities.
Lisa Chilton, NBN Trust CEO, says:
“The NBN Trust is thrilled to have been chosen as a recipient of an AWS IMAGINE Grant to help us improve our biodiversity data portal, the NBN Atlas.
“The NBN Atlas holds more than 250 million UK species records and the grant will help us to speed up our data processing so that we are able to publish new data much more frequently.
“This means that vital biodiversity data will be accessible sooner and have a greater impact for nature.
“This project will also significantly benefit our 170 data providers and the many thousands of end-users of the data, from across the UK conservation sector and globally.”
The two other recipients of AWS’s Go Further, Faster award for highly innovative projects using advanced cloud services, are The Bat Conservation Trust and Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay, Devon.
