Further to the announcement in August’s Network News regarding the NBN Forum, we are pleased to bring you some additional information.
Firstly, we can confirm that we have been able to download all of the content from the Forum, including attachments, which means the historic information will be safely preserved. We will make a further download at the end of September, to ensure any more recent discussions are included, and we’ll keep this information until we find a new place to host it.
Secondly, thank you to those of you who gave us feedback on the retirement of the current Forum and your suggestions for the future, we are very grateful for your input and have been looking at all of the options.
We are pleased that ALERC (Association of Local Environmental Records Centres) is currently investigating whether it can host a Forum on its website and we will bring you news on this as soon as it’s available.
In the meantime, there is already information on the ALERC website relating specifically to Recorder6, which is the main area people are concerned about for ongoing help and advice, so please do use this as a resource in the short term.
Mike Weideli has also posted on the Forum as follows:
I am continuing to provide support for R6 supported by John van Breda where required. As interim measure I may be emailed directly at recorder@Lfield.co.uk. I have always tried to offer support promptly and will do my best to continue to do so. However, please be aware that I am providing support voluntarily and it may not be possible to respond immediately. Users should periodically check www.Recorder6.info regarding new dictionary updates.
The loss of the forum means that we can no longer benefit from the knowledge and experience of other users. . There will also be no way of informing users when a new dictionary upgrade is available. I am looking at setting up new group of some sort to fulfil this objective. If you would be interested in joining please put a post here or email me at Recorder@Lfield.co.uk.
We have assured users that we will be able to advise about dictionary updates via Network News.
All further updates relating to this subject will be given on the NBN Trust website and in Network News, so please do subscribe if you don’t already.
Thank you once again for your support, we will bring you more information as soon as we can.
