Performance and stability problems
Following our previous update on 7 April, we were provided with a number of recommendations by the specialist Solr company we have engaged.
The first recommendation relates to the design of the index (schema) where the size of the index file could be reduced. This option has not been feasible for the short term due to the complexity of the schema. However, it is an area we plan to investigate further and we have installed monitoring software recommended to us by the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) and will continue our investigations.
The second recommendation relates to reconfiguring the server’s size and to change the number of the servers used to serve the index. This has been completed as part of the server reservation service that Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides, however, we are still experiencing problems. We are now investigating whether an increase of memory per server will improve the performance and stability and are exploring additional options with the Solr specialists.
We apologise for these problems and would like to assure you that we are doing all we can to minimise any further issues and disruption. We will keep you up to date with our progress via Network News and the NBN Forum.
As always, thank you for your patience and support.
