Innovation Follow-on Call

The Innovation Follow-on Call: Enabling innovation in the UK and developing countries opened on JeS 24th May 2017 and closes at 16.00 hours on 12th July 2017

The Innovation Follow-on call [1]will fund translational, knowledge exchange and commercialisation activities that aim to achieve outcomes that deliver economic, societal and/or environmental impact. £1.65M NERC funding is available to support projects which deliver tangible and demonstrable benefits to end-users, particularly businesses, both in the UK or if internationally, in the countries on the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list[2].  A maximum of £125,000 (£100,000 NERC contribution economic cost) may be requested. All Innovation Follow-on Call projects must involve project partners/end-users.         These can be private, public or third sector organisations and institutions.

The fund is open to current or past research council grant-holders and proposals must build on the outputs of recent or previous NERC-funded research activity, or build on a research council-funded research activity which falls within NERC’s remit.  Please see eligibility guidance on the RCUK website.

[1] This replaces the previous Follow-on Fund and Innovation Project (Open) calls.

[2] Proposals aiming to work in a DAC list country, will be funded as part of the UK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) commitment, which is monitored by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). ODA funded activities must focus on outcomes that promote the long-term sustainable growth, economic development and welfare of developing countries as its main objective (further advice will be available in the announcement of opportunity).
