The Natural History Consortium has been awarded an exciting grant from the West of England Combined Authority‘s Bee Bold Pollinator Fund.
The Pollinator Fund builds on from the Combined Authority’s ‘Bee Bold Awards’ and will help to deliver on the West of England’s objective to increase the abundance of wildlife by 30% by 2030. The Fund has been created to support community-led ecology projects that enhance biodiversity and pollinator habitats across the West of England region.
The objectives of the fund are:
- To create and enhance the biodiversity in the area with an emphasis on improving pollinator habitats to contribute towards the regional ambition to increase the abundance of wildlife by 2030
- To raise awareness and empower communities to take action to address the ecological emergency
The 2023 projects include:
- pesticide reduction workshops for allotments
- food growing and gardening in-person and online courses
- iNaturalist wildlife monitoring training
- community events in local green spaces
- a free resource bank for pesticide reduction
- community enquiry into increased inclusivity for wildlife gardening
- pollinator celebration events with researchers at Festival of Nature
- pollinator monitoring support during the West of England’s City Nature Challenge
