Several opportunities are currently available for funding and grants as detailed below. Please follow the links for the full information.

Viking Bursary

The Royal Forestry has opened applications for its Viking Bursary which awards up to £2,000 to higher education students to fund original study and research. Recent recipients have used the funding to study topics such as the impact of climate change on forest canopy temperatures, the influence of viruses on bacterial tree diseases like Acute Oak Decline and how trees in complex mixtures recover from drought stress.

Deadline for applications is Thursday 1 May.

Biffa Award’s Partnership Grants Scheme

Biffa Award, a UK wide funding initiative under the Landfill Communities Fund, has announced the opening of its 2025 Partnership Grants Scheme, aiming to support significant projects that enhance community facilities and protect the natural environment. Eligible organisations can apply for grants ranging from £250,000 to £1,000,000, with the total funding allocation for the scheme yet to be specified. The scheme focuses on two primary themes: Built environment and Natural environment.

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by noon on 30 May 2025. Successful applicants will be notified in late July 2025 and invited to submit a full application.

People’s Trust for Endangered Species – Conservation Insight Grants (UK / International)

The People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) has launched a new round of Conservation Insight Grants. The Conservation Insight Grants provide funding between £3,000 and £10,000 per annum up to a maximum of £20,000 to support innovative conservation projects worldwide.

The grants are open to conservationists and scientific researchers working on species listed by the IUCN as endangered or more threatened. Projects must be experimental and test new conservation methods.

It is a two stage application process and the deadline for submitting the pre-application form is 11.59 pm (UK time) 29 May 2025.

Grants for Community Recycling, Biodiversity & Public Amenity Projects (Scotland)

Not-for-profit organisations such as registered charities, community councils, community groups and local authorities can apply for grants of between £2,000 and £40,000 to fund community recycling and biodiversity projects as well as improvements to public amenities, parks and historic buildings. To be eligible most projects must be within 10 miles of an eligible licensed landfill site or transfer station.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on 14 May 2025.

Funding for Projects that Have a Positive Impact on Communities, People or the Environment (UK)
The Matthew Good Foundation has opened the next round of its Grants for Good Fund. The aim is to support small charities, not-for-profit groups, and social entrepreneurs passionate about making a difference for people, their communities, and the environment. The Fund will share £15,000 between five shortlisted projects every three months, which will be voted for by John Good Group employees. The project that receives the most votes will receive a grant of £5,000, second place £3,500, third place £2,500, and fourth and fifth place, both receiving £2,000. As well as established projects and charities, the Foundation wants to hear from people with innovative ideas that need some funding to get their projects up and running. To be eligible, applicants must have had an income of less than £50,000 in the last 12 months. Funding is awarded every three months and the next deadline for the next funding round is 15 June 2025.
