Early career conservation internship grants

Are you a British graduate, or have you recently finished your undergraduate degree at a university in the UK? Are you looking to work in conservation in the UK but finding it hard to get anywhere without any work experience?

Since 2001 People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) has been supporting the next generation of UK conservationists via its internship awards. Each intern is awarded up to £7,000 to support them while they carry out a practical project on a species of interest, providing an opportunity for them to gain work experience and new skills.

Internship grant applications are now being accepted for 2025.

This year PTES is giving priority to projects focussing on less well represented taxa e.g. invertebrates, plants, fungi, fish, amphibians and reptiles or projects that focus on increasing taxonomic and identification skills.

The projects must be carried out at either a conservation organisation or research group at a university and can run for a continual (full time) period of up to six months or intermittently (part time) for up to 18 months. You must have recently graduated from a UK university to apply.

More information about the internship grants and the eligibility criteria can be found on the PTES website.
