BioBlitz resources

The national programme of BioBlitzes is well and truly underway this year, with events taking place all over the country.

In order to make the organisation of a BioBlitz as straightforward as possible, OPAL has produced a Guide to Running a BioBlitz.  It quite simply tells you all the things that need to be considered if you are going to run an event in your area – from the basics of preparation, to running the day and finally to what happens after the event.

As BioBlitzes are aimed at getting as many people as possible involved in recording species in a particular area, it is very likely that there will be a large number of people who have never considered recording wildlife before.  This is a great opportunity to really show the value of participation in such projects and you may find the Darwin Guide to Recording Wildlife a useful resource for getting people started.

The key output of the BioBlitz will be the data that is gathered.  To help with this the Biological Records Centre has produced a standard recording form.  This will help to ensure that there is a consistenecy to all the records.
