iSpot data

iSpot data loaded onto the Gateway

The first iSpot dataset loaded onto the Gateway comprises records of shieldbugs and allied species uploaded to the iSpot website during the period 2008-2010.  The data were loaded onto the Gateway on the 25th March 2011.

All of the records relate to insects photographed in the field and determined by expert consensus on iSpot. Since almost all the British shieldbugs and allies can be identified from a good photograph, including the nymphs of many species, confidence in the quality of these data is very high.

What is iSpot?

iSpot is a website aimed at helping anyone identify anything in nature.

Once you’ve registered, you can add an observation to the website and suggest an identification yourself or see if anyone else can identify it for you.

You can also help others by adding an identification to an existing observation, which you may like to do as your knowledge grows. Your reputation on the site will grow as people agree with you identifications.

Why not join in and have a go?
