We are sharing an update with the Network that, following a period of research and review, we are making changes to the NBN Trust membership scheme.
This has been informed by a Pilotlight Insights Review in late 2024 and member and non-member surveys carried out in summer 2025.
Background
The current NBN Trust membership model has become complex and includes a mix of legacy categories, complex discounting arrangements, and uneven fees.
The update, which builds on the work of the Pilotlight Review, identified the need to:
- Establish a clear, consistent membership framework.
- Build sustainable, diversified income.
- Align fees with the value delivered, especially for organisations that benefit from the NBN Atlas and associated services.
- Create a clearer distinction between paying members and non-paying subscribers.
Implementation
Individual members
The first phase will be implemented from 1 April 2026 and will be applicable to individual members for the 2026/27 financial year from that date. All individual members with April renewals are being contacted about the changes and other individual members will be contacted in advance of their monthly renewals. The NBN Trust website will be updated to reflect the changes by 1 April. From 1 April, all new members will join the new scheme.
Organisational members
We are expecting to roll out the updated scheme for organisations in summer 2026 and will share the information with current members ahead of then, in advance of their renewals for 2026/27.
We’d like to assure all members that access to the NBN Atlas and any other services is unchanged and there will be no interruption to membership during the renewal and transition process.
