FAIRe data workshop

The NBN Trust recently supported 80 researchers and academics at a FAIRe data workshop organised by Miwa Takahashi, a post doctoral fellow at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, in collaboration with staff from Natural England and UCL.

The event brought researchers together to learn how to make eDNA data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable: the guiding principles of FAIR data.

FAIRe Guidelines

The FAIRe guidelines provide a practical, step-by-step guide to formatting your eDNA data, paired with a comprehensive metadata checklist and formatting tools to help you generate custom data templates and prepare your data for publication.

The NBN Trust has recently published guidelines on submitting DNA-derived occurrence records to the NBN Atlas. We are also taking part in the GBIF metabarcoding data tool pilot to assist the transformation of environmental DNA into occurrence records.

The NBN Trust’s Biodiversity Data Officer, Will Millard took part in the workshop and gave a presentation about the Trust’s work and the NBN Atlas in relation to FAIR data.

We’d like to give thanks to all who took part in the discussion, the organisers for facilitating such an enjoyable and engaging session and DEFRA for funding our work in this partnership.
