Species Recovery Programme Capital Grant Scheme

Have you got a great idea for a project to recover species in England? Natural England is looking to fund capital projects that will create or enhance habitats to support action for priority, threatened or near threatened species in England and/or conservation translocations of relevant species that enhance habitats to enable them to function effectively.

  • Opening date:
  • Closing date:

The new capital grant scheme – the Species Recovery Programme Capital Grant scheme (SRPCGS) – complements and builds upon the existing and long-running Species Recovery Programme.

The grant scheme will span two financial years 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 and 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. Funding is entirely capital.

To be eligible for capital grant funding, projects need to include the enhancement or creation of heritage assets (i.e. an area of land supporting wildlife habitats) which benefit species recovery; and/or conservation translocations of target species that enhance habitats to enable them to function effectively.

Projects will deliver recovery solutions and result in the improved status of the species concerned, contributing to the new Government target to reduce species’ extinction risk.
