Input to the next UK monitoring and modelling programme

Adapting and enhancing the next UK monitoring and modelling programme for terrestrial and freshwater science – your chance to get involved

UKCEH would like to invite you to input to the design of the next UK monitoring and modelling programme for terrestrial and freshwater science. This will be the follow on programme from UK-SCAPE, which currently provides national-scale data and models designed to deliver new integrated understanding of the environment to tackle the challenges of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.

This is your chance to influence the next phase of these monitoring and modelling activities, and to understand how they support your work. Your responses will feed into planning of future activities over the next five years.

There are a number of activities listed. For biodiversity work, the following are particularly relevant:

  • Biological Records Centre (BRC).  BRC provides a national focus in the UK for terrestrial and freshwater species recording. BRC works closely with the voluntary recording community, principally through support of national recording schemes and societies. BRC supports key infrastructure such as iRecord, distribution atlases and analysis pipelines for assessing trends in thousands of plant and animal species.
  • UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (UKBMS). A partnership scheme running for almost 50 years, with wide research use. UKCEH leads on the data management and analysis for the scheme.
  • National Plant Monitoring Scheme (UKBMS). A partnership scheme with growing research use. The NPMS assesses the abundance and diversity of plants to help understand the health of different habitats. UKCEH leads on the data management and analysis for the scheme.

Please complete the survey, which should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete, before the end of February 2023.
