About Neil
I’ve always loved maps and being outdoors. Growing up in Norwich, I spent weekends orienteering, and that early fascination with navigation and place has stuck with me — the first thing I do in any new home is put up a map.
I studied Geographical Information Science at Newcastle University and stayed on as a Research Associate, where I worked on managing and maintaining data for the Urban Observatory — a large-scale project focused on open urban data. It gave me valuable experience working with complex datasets and highlighted how accessible, well-structured data can support a wide range of research and decision-making.
Now based in County Durham, I’m enjoying the opportunity to apply that experience to the world of biodiversity. I’ve always enjoyed being outside and noticing the natural world, and I’m still learning more about it every day — often on runs through the local trails with my dog Zephyr. I’m keen to help make biodiversity data more useful, connected, and impactful.
