Independent Wildlife Crime Investigators & Trainers Alliance overview
The Independent Wildlife Crime Investigators & Trainers Alliance (IWCITA) is a grassroots organisation focused on practical wildlife crime awareness, education, training, networking and partnership working.
Our aim is to make high-quality, accessible training available to people working and volunteering at grassroots level, while bringing together knowledge and experience from wildlife crime, conservation, animal welfare, forensic science and practical fieldwork.
IWCITA places strong emphasis on professional standards, governance and responsible working. Our framework includes a Code of Professional Conduct, instructor authorisation procedures, course approval and quality assurance, health and safety policies, risk assessments, and clear information and intelligence boundaries.
A fundamental principle of IWCITA is Police Primacy. We do not claim or exercise any law-enforcement powers. Our role is to improve knowledge, observation, reporting and practical skills while encouraging appropriate engagement with the police, statutory bodies and established conservation organisations.
We are committed to collaboration and welcome opportunities to work with organisations and individuals who share our aim of improving knowledge, skills and action for wildlife.
