Many earthworm studies concentrate on European earthworms, particularly their roles in soil processes, agriculture and ecotoxicology. This virtual event will explore the worldwide diversity of earthworms and some the fascinating and exotic species that have been discovered by earthworm researchers. Earthworm scientists will present their research and explain what this tells us, over the course of this three-hour event.Beginning by travelling around the globe with Dr Sam James and learning about some of the weird and wonderful earthworms that he’s described to science. Earthworms come in many colours and aren’t just found living in the soil – prepare for your earthworm horizons to be broadened. The following earthworm researchers will also share their discoveries:– The Giant Wetland Worms of South America with Doyle McKey– The Earthworm Invasion of North America with Katalin Szlavecz– Phylogenetic Tools to Dig Out the Evolutionary History of Earthworms with Daniel Fernandez MarchánThis online event will delve into scientific research but in a way designed for a non-academic audience. All that’s required is an interest in the natural world!
