Why iRecord Virtual Symposium

Online
Starts:
Friday 21 April 2023, 10:00
Ends:
Friday 21 April 2023, 13:00

Biological recording is the scientific study of the distribution of living organisms, biological records describe the presence, abundance, associations and changes, both in time and space, of wildlife. It is super important as it often provides us with the data that we need to make all sorts of decisions about wildlife. Volunteer biological recorders and citizen scientists are responsible for generating data on a scale that would never be achievable by government agencies and researchers, recording everything from hedgehogs and mosquitos to fungi and ferns. This virtual event will showcase some of the fantastic initiatives collating data gathered by volunteers and delve into what the data is telling us about UK wildlife and how you can get involved. Hear from a Local Environmental Record Centre about local perspectives and how a national conservation charity is recruiting and training new verification assistants to help with the huge quantities of data they are receiving. Finally, there will be an update from the iRecord team themselves, letting us know how iRecord is developing and what the future looks like for this online recording platform.Book via Eventbrite.
