Location:
Online
Starts:

Ends:
Monday 8 December 2025, 14:00

Dr Max Tercel shares his cutting-edge research into the ecology and lives of driver ants in tropical Africa.

Driver ants form some of the most impressive colonies of any animal on Earth, up to 20 million strong. They form vast raids to capture their prey but surprisingly little is known about them. This talk will describe what we know about driver ants and what we’re beginning to learn about this amazing group of social insects using cutting-edge modern tools.

Max Tercel is a scientist studying the ecology of ants at the Université de Montpellier. He is interested in how ants affect the world around them and uses time-tested entomological techniques as well as newer cutting-edge molecular methods, such as DNA metabarcoding, in his research.

The 1-hour event will consist of a presentation followed by a Q&A with the tutor using questions provided by the live audience.
