National Butterfly Recorders’ Meeting 2012

Location:
The meeting takes place at the Birmingham and Midland Institute, a short walk from New Street Station in central Birmingham
Starts:
Saturday 17 March 2012, 11:00

If you are interested in butterflies, active in sending in butterfly sightings or involved in nature conservation, then this is a day for you. The annual National Butterfly Recorders’ Meeting provides the latest information on butterfly populations and trends from the national recording and monitoring schemes, new research findings from scientists and news and feedback from butterfly enthusiasts across the UK. This year, we are delighted and very privileged to have Professor Jeremy Thomas OBE from Oxford University as our guest speaker. Professor Thomas is the foremost butterfly scientist in Britain and has a global reputation for his pioneering research and conservation work on butterflies (particularly the iconic Large Blue), as well as his wonderful natural history books on butterflies. The full programme can be found on the Butterfly Conservation website.

Anyone interested in butterflies or their conservation is welcome; you don't have to be an active recorder. However, we do require advanced booking and there is a (heavily subsidised) registration fee of £5 per person, made on the day, to help cover the costs of venue hire, tea/coffee and buffet lunch. If you would like to book a place please contact Butterfly Conservation (01929 400209 or info@butterfly-conservation.org) providing your name, address, contact details and any specific dietary requirements.
