Marine non-native species – responding to the threat

Location:
Battleby
Starts:
Tuesday 27 October 2009,

Non-native species pose an increasing threat to our seas, coasts and estuaries, and to economic activities in these areas. This event is an opportunity for those who work in the marine environment to learn about and consider possible responses to this threat. This will include potential methods and strategies for prevention, detection and control of invasive plants and animals.

Presentations and case studies will consider the spread of non-native species, impacts on biodiversity, effi cacy of control methods and examples of successful management strategies. Workshop topics will include identifying species likely to spread to Scotland in the future, developing rapid responses to new arrivals, and the legislative framework.
