A day course on the Biology and Identification of the Conifers with Matt Parratt.

Conifers are a traditionally difficult group of plants to identify as they have small flowering and fruiting parts and can look quite similar.  They belong to a range of families and most species encountered are introduced, having become naturalised mainly from forestry plantations.

This one day workshop will provide an introduction to the identification of this group using a wide range of fresh and preserved material to explore their key features and hone your identification skills.  In addition to a range of common conifers, we will also look at some of the less common species.

At the end of the session, you should be familiar with the main features of the key genera and the diagnostic features that separate out the common species.  You will also have an opportunity to key out some less common specimens.
