The 2020 Millport Bioblitz takes place on Saturday 27 June from 10.00am – 4.00pm.
The aim is to count as many species as possible in one day across Millport bay. This is a free day for anyone who wishes to join in, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never been to a Bioblitz before or if you’ve been to 100, all that is required is enthusiasm!
Families can attend activities at Garrison House, Kames Bay, Pottery Bay and FSC Millport, at each stage in the trail there will be a different environment to explore with expertly led sessions to discover what animals and plants live there. Or, if you are a keen amateur recorder you can complete your own biological surveys with support from experts in the field to add to the overall tally counts. As you complete the trail and arrive at FSC Millport you can add to the tally of species found across the bay and see what else has been discovered!
There will also be the chance to complete Beach Cleans. With so much waiting to be discovered why not join in with FSC Millport’s Bioblitz and explore the coasts and waters around the Isle of Cumbrae.
You don’t need a ticket to attend, just turn up on the day!
More information and registration details can be found on the Eventbrite page
Can you help out?
The Field Studies Council Bioblitz team is looking for local wildlife experts who could either set up an outreach stall, lead small group sessions or help identify species at its bases. They are currently planning pond dipping, rocky shore surveys, sandy shore surveys, bird walks, beach cleans, moth ID and bug hunts as guided activities.
