Crucifers have a reputation for being difficult to identify.

First, because there are so many yellow ones that look the same, and second, you often need both flowers and fruit to use the keys. But help is at hand!

Using the BSBI Crucifer Handbook as the basis for the course, the day starts with a general introduction, a description of the characters used in the keys, followed by examination of some live specimens which will be talked through individually. You will then key out further specimens yourself with expert guidance where needed. By the end of the session, you should be familiar with the main features of the key genera and the diagnostic features that separate out the common species.
