This year's Royal Town Planning Insititute Nathaniel Lichfield Lecture will be delivered by Mitchell Silver, President of the American Planning Association and Chief Planning and Economic Development Officer for Raleigh, North Carolina.
This thought-provoking lecture by a pre-eminent member of the world-wide planning community will take an international perspective to argue that, with changing demographics, shifting political landscapes and new demands for energy and infrastructure, a new role for the planning profession is required.
Mr. Silver, an award-winning planner, renowned for his leadership in the planning profession and his contributions to contemporary planning issues, will consider the emerging trends and challenges in 21st Century planning, and reflect upon whether planners are well-positioned to lead and innovate as we plan for the future.
He will draw on his own experiences of planning in New York City, Washington D.C., and, most recently, Raleigh (one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.) to discuss what planning and planners must do to have renewed value in the 21st Century.
The lecture will take place on 20 November 2012 and is once again generously supported by Dalia Lichfield and kindly hosted by University College London
