Big Butterfly Count 2012

Location:
Nationwide
Starts:
Saturday 14 July 2012,
Ends:
Sunday 5 August 2012,

The world’s biggest count of butterflies is underway and we need your help! Spend just 15 minutes watching butterflies in any sunny place then submit your sightings online. You’ll be helping conservationists to track the fortunes of these beautiful but declining insects. You don’t need to be an expert! Download the identification chart and see what you can find.

Sir David Attenborough launched the Count, saying “Our butterflies continue to struggle in an uncertain world. By taking part in this year’s Big Butterfly Count and encouraging friends and family to do the same, you can make a stand in our fight to turn their fortunes around.” Last year over 30,000 people took part but, with your help, we hope that many more will join in the Count this summer.

Big Butterfly Count runs from 14 July – 5 August 2012 (you have until the end of August to submit your sightings) on the Big Butterfly Count website.
