Free day of wildlife fun for all ages

Location:
Blenheim Gardens, Minehead
Starts:
Saturday 8 April 2023, 10:00
Ends:
Saturday 8 April 2023, 15:00

A fun day of free wildlife activities, quizzes and challenges (including the perennial favourite – the ‘Whose Poo?’ challenge!) to launch West Somerset Wildways, a brand new Somerset Wildlife Trust Wilder Communities project.  No need to book – just turn up!

It’s essential to monitor the variety and quantity of local wildlife in order to protect it for the future, and Somerset Wildlife Trust (SWT) needs hundreds – or even thousands – of people to get involved.

Following the launch, free wildlife sessions will be available to community and youth groups across West Somerset, helping them to observe and record the nature around them using the iNaturalist app and website. There will be opportunities to learn how to use iNaturalist throughout the launch event, as well as fun wildlife activities for all ages, from 3 to 103!

‘The wonderful thing about iNaturalist is that it’s for everyone,’ says Elizabeth Atkinson, West Somerset Wildways coordinator. ‘You don’t need to be a wildlife expert or a technical wizard to use it: you just upload your photos and iNaturalist will suggest IDs. And you can learn so much about the creatures and plants you observe – it’s fantastic!’
