NBN Conference 2020 – overview and social media
199 delegates attended the 2020 NBN Conference, which was held online for the first time on 18 November. This is the highest number of delegates ever to attend an NBN Conference! A cross section of organisations were represented and included wildlife NGOs, academia, local environmental records centres, recording schemes, country agencies, students and individuals all with an interest in sharing and using biodiversity data and wildlife recording.
There were thirteen presentations including two keynote addresses, one of which was the annual Sir John Burnett Memorial lecture.
We also held the NBN Trust AGM and announced the winners and runners up in the NBN Awards for Wildlife Recording 2020. These were both recorded and along with the presentations will be posted here soon.
PDFs of all of the presentations can be found on the NBN Conference 2020 – Presentations page.

I appreciate Dr Medupin linking the need for peace and the sustainability goals with biodiversity and ecology work. These connections in our work are so important in science/life and it’s great to hear it said out loud @cemedupin #NBNconf20 https://t.co/MU5ZnmwsQY

@cemedupin‘s conclusion at the #NBNconf20: the times are changing and biodiversity is changing too, changing times require effective strategies so there’s need for connection, integration, and inclusion.

Really excited to presenting at #NBNConf20. My career in data really started as part of the NBNGateway developer team in the early 2000s, so I’m delighted to be back and see @NBNTrust going from strength to strength!

Excellent start to the #NBNconf20 . A big focus on open data, share-ability and inclusivity; never has this topic been more important in such uncertain times @NBNTrust @SxBRC pic.twitter.com/vkUV3Vj5J2

A great finish to a morning of very interesting talks. Always enjoy hearing about #beaver reintroduction work – really good to hear how the return of this native mammal is positively impacting #wildlife #NBNConf20 https://t.co/dHHKnF2nSJ

Brilliant to hear from Sir Charlie Burrell (@kneppcastle) today – especially as I’ve just been reading ‘Wilding’ 🌱🌳🐞 Highlighting some of the wonderful work at Knepp – including vital #insect monitoring (fly new to Britain and strong dung beetle population) 👏💩 #NBNconf20 pic.twitter.com/AMZXxssanv
