What is it that excites, motivates and inspires him to record?

“Being on the seashore, monad surveying the coasts of Kent and Sussex, in glorious warm summer or even in wet windy winter is not only good for the soul but also for recording throughout the year. Our coastal environment in the southeast has been altered considerably by mankind over the past few hundred years, the arrival of non-native species, changes in sea water quality, and now by climate change. This makes the data from seaweed recording in the field important in assisting statutory bodies and NGOs devise strategies for coastal management, and importantly to leave a legacy of information for future generations to understand the status of the seaweed flora and coastal environment at their time.  I’ve endeavoured to understand change by extending recording back in time through searching and collating past records in museums and the literature. I have recorded significant changes in my lifetime! An essential driver is to share recording activities with the wider public and especially young people to encourage them to get involved and be the recorders of the future.”
