This course, aimed at beginners and improvers will focus on how to identify Hampshire’s 46 butterfly species. This will be achieved with reference to museum specimens, photographs and practical observation in an adjacent area of grassland. Field study is of course weather dependent, but for the date chosen, assuming good weather, we should hopefully see at least 10 different species in their habitat.
The course will focus on the best approaches to butterfly identification, including the use of digital photography. It will focus on the challenge of identifying similar looking whites, browns, blues, skippers and fritillaries, as well as describing differences between males and females of the same species.
The day is suitable for anyone aged 18 and over and will include various talks and demonstrations by the leader. However, the emphasis for the day is very much on participants having a go themselves.
Cost: £25.00 (to include tea/coffee; participants to provide their own packed lunch).
Prior booking essential (numbers limited to 20)
