The Conference theme is National Recording Schemes and Societies – celebrating the past, looking to the future and it will be held on the 12^th-13^th May at Lancaster University.

Conference aims

The conference aims to celebrate the achievements of National Recording Schemes and Societies and help to build on these achievements in future by:

• Highlighting the crucial and evolving role of volunteer-led NSS in UK biological recording
• Raising awareness of resources and opportunities available to NSS and their volunteer recorders
• Facilitating collaboration between NSS and other partners on local and national scales to achieve common goals

Programme and Booking

The conference will consist of presentations, speed talks, a poster exhibition and discussion workshops.  The full programme is now available to download, and the book of abstracts will be added shortly.

There will be a conference dinner on Thursday evening and a field trip to the Forest of Bowland AONB on Saturday 14^th May.  Please note that places on the field trip are limited to 20 people, so if you are interested in taking part you are encouraged to book your place very soon!

NBN Conference theme

The theme of the conference is ‘Going with the flow’ – focusing on the stages of the data flow pathway throughout the two days.

Format

We received very positive feedback from last year’s conference in York, especially in relation to the two day format and moving around the UK.  You asked for more interaction throughout the conference with increased time for questions, and for the venue to be closer to public transport links.  With this in mind we will be offering a two day conference within walking distance of Edinburgh Waverley Station. We will also be building more time for questions into the programme as well as regular breaks for networking.

UK Awards

Following its success in 2015, on Thursday 17th November 2016, we will be holding an evening reception for the UK Awards for Biological Recording and Information Sharing.

We are delighted that Swarovski Optik UK will once again be sponsoring these awards.
