Recruiting new Trustees for the NBN Trust

Want to save the planet, by thinking globally and acting locally?

Excited by wildlife data and want to champion its collection, sharing and use?

Could you engage new supporters with a UK environmental charity?

The National Biodiversity Network Trust is seeking to appoint up to three new Trustees to assist the NBN Trust in delivering its strategy into 2021 and beyond.

The Organisation

The National Biodiversity Network Trust is a charitable organisation with a membership that shares wildlife data and information under the banner of the National Biodiversity Network (the NBN). Membership includes most of the UK’s national biological recording schemes and societies, many of the UK’s largest wildlife charities and Local Environmental Record Centres, as well as government agencies, research institutions, museums, botanic gardens and members of the public. By engaging with our membership, we are able to draw upon a broad range of skills and resources needed to develop the building blocks for an effective NBN.

The NBN Trust provides a digital infrastructure to facilitate the sharing of wildlife information in the UK. By providing easy access to the information people need about wildlife, informed decisions can be made to ensure our natural environment is diverse and sustainable now and in the future.

The Opportunity

We are looking to appoint up to three talented and committed new trustees to enhance and extend the range of skills across our Board. We are particularly keen to attract applications from potential trustees with skills in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of key players in the biodiversity/data sector
  • IT systems development/ hosting
  • Data management
  • Knowledge of the commercial ecological / environmental sector
  • Finance/fundraising

Time commitment

We expect our trustees to have a strong commitment to the organisation. All trustee posts are part-time, unremunerated, non-executive appointments with reasonable expenses paid. Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, with an option to renew for a second term.

Trustees will be expected to attend quarterly board meetings and be able to contribute positively and constructively to the debate (currently held on line but it is hoped we can return to being hosted at the Natural History Museum in London). Trustees may also be asked to participate in committees set up by the board and provide advice and support to the Chief Executive and NBN Trust Secretariat as and when required.
