Greenspace Information for Greater London CIC (GiGL) is recruiting a Habitats Officer to join their team and help deliver their vision of London’s natural environment being appreciated, understood, considered, and improved. This role is an opportunity for the right person to gain experience in the varied remit of local environmental records centres and GiGL’s work as a social enterprise in the capital. The post is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months.
The post-holder will have primary responsibility for maintaining and enhancing GiGL’s core habitat and land use spatial dataset. This dataset underpins the delivery of services to GiGL’s partners and wider community, who require insights into London’s natural environment based on the evidence base.
The successful candidate will be a proficient user of GIS software and have experience of spatial data editing and manipulation. S/he will also have experience of performing data entry and working with databases and an understanding of habitat survey methods. Organised and reliable, and possessing good communication skills as well as a keen eye for detail. An understanding of the importance of responsible data handling and data standards is essential. Practical experience of undertaking habitat surveys or managing habitat survey data, and familiarity with, or prior use of, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and BNG metrics would be an advantage.
