Botanists don’t always have the luxury of flowers or fruits when conducting fieldwork.

This workshop is aimed at new users of the Vegetative Key to the British Flora – an exciting new approach to plant identification – and will teach reliable identification by vegetative characters. The workshop is aimed at amateur and professional botanists, recorders and consultants, regardless of previous botanical training. This practical workshop will include an introduction to vegetative identification using the Vegetative Key, practical identification of native and alien flora and will increase confidence in your ID skills.

Following a brief explanation of botanical terminology, we will study and key out a wide selection of fresh plant material in order to practise identification skills and use of the key.
By the end of the session you will be able to identify a wide range of native and alien plants without flowers or fruit and know how to use the keys correctly (as well as learning a few shortcuts to ID).
